Hike Preparation

This evenings pack night followed on from the Harry Potter themed evenings of grid references and basic map skills.

We started in the usual manner of playing a couple of games to use up some of that end of term energy and then settled down to talking about routes and the planning involved.

Once we had finished this, we then ventured out for a brisk walk around the village (it was too much of a nice evening not too!).
The cubs were asked to discuss in pairs what they would take with them in a day sack if they were to go out of a days hike and we would compile the list once back in the hall.

The cubs really enjoyed the walk and we were treated to a fantastic sunset. After talking about what they may take, some we'd simply have to define as Bear Grylls and others as an Ox. They would either take the absolute minimum or everything, one cubs list included 8 litres of bottled water!

Needless to say, their hike won't require too much. Facing facts, carrying their own coat can prove a challenge for some.

We have now finished for the end of term so there is NO cubs for two weeks. We'll see you all back in the hall on 20th April.

-.-. ..- -... ...

Well you have probably guessed that this evenings pack night was all to do with Morse code and signalling.

Dividing the cubs into groups, they prepared their messages to fire across the hall to their counterparts...

One group signalling their message with light (torches) the others using their scarves as semaphore flags. It took a while, but they eventually got the hang of it and were soon lengthening their messages.

A couple of games finished off another great evening!

Next week - in Hall, continuation of badge work.

Cubs Christmas Carols

In our traditional manner, we finished this term off with our Carol service, and I have to say that the cubs, both Cheetah and Puma pack sung their hearts out.

It is always a lovely service conducted by Akela Derek and the 'gang' and this year with the starting of a new tradition of Mary & Joseph being passed around from family to family seemed to bring thing as always, a little closer to home at this time of year.

The service was really well attended and the support of parents and siblings is always welcome and appreciated.

There were also three Cub Scout Silver Awards presented to cubs that have worked hard and achieved the necessary level of cub scouting that befits being presented with the Highest Badge obtainable.

It just leave us as leaders to say thank you to our ubs and parents for another great year of Scouting, fun and support.

And as always a pat on the back for the leaders who without giving up their time, none of this would be possible.

We wish you all a
Merry Christmas
&
 Happy New Year

Ice Bucket Challenge

Were we cruel getting the cubs to do the Ice Bucket Challenge on their first night back? We think not! It's all for a great cause and they loved it!

In fairness, Akela welcomed all the new cubs, some swimming up from Beavers, others transferring from other packs within the District and those who just want to be part of it - All were made very welcome.

Whilst some of the leaders took the cubs who have been chosen to finalise their skills for the up coming 'Oxley Shield' competition camp this weekend, Akela played a few games to help integrate the new cubs!

Time caught us up quickly and our young leaders had been very busy filling far too many buckets with icy cold water, so we marched to the Golden Fleece Garden ready to get wet.

This part of the evening did not disappoint! All for a good cause Muscle Warriors - we all got soaked!

Our leaders video is here! Please check out the 1st Braughing FaceBook page for the Cubs Video!

Just so it's clear - We nominated the Ware District Leaders Team!

Good luck to our Oxley Team - you'll have a fantastic time!
